We've taken the best and made it better. Based on the multi-award winning EVOKE-2, EVOKE-2XT boasts a number of significant improvements that make this a DAB digital radio without parallel. Styling has been enhanced with radius-edged casework finished in either maple or cherry wood veneer and a large easy-to-read white-on-blue display.

Audio fidelity has been refined with new hi-fi quality drive units and active audio filtering to fully exploit the crystal-clear DAB sound that has won over radio listeners everywhere.

To complete this great radio we've added a handy clock display, a tone/radio alarm, a kitchen timer, even the ability to connect your iPod, CD or MiniDisc to enjoy the rich tones of EVOKE-2XT from all your music sources.

The DAB transmission standard provides high-quality, interference-free digital audio without the hiss, crackle and fade of AM/FM broadcasts. Fast autotune locates all available DAB stations. Select stations by name and list them alphabetically or in the order you listen to them most. Scrolling text shows additional data such as song titles, artists' names, programme descriptions, news headlines and more.

Up to twice as many stations are available in many areas as via FM. UK stations broadcast digitally include national BBC Radios 1-4, BBC Radio 5 Live, Classic FM, talkSPORT and Virgin Radio, plus local and unique-to-digital stations. Manual or seek tuning for your favourite local radio stations.

High-resolution white-on-blue display is clearer and more visible from a distance. Selectable backlight display and brightness adjustment give you complete control. Icons for immediate status display, including battery life. Clock display in standby mode.

EVOKE-2XT offers class-leading audio quality with its custom designed full-range hi-fi speakers and active filters for a natural 'direct-from-the-studio' sound. It is also bass reflex ported for richer more natural reproduction of low frequencies.

The countdown timer is ideal for kitchen use and easy to set using the timer button.

Easy to use tone or radio alarm. Time is automatically updated from the DAB signal, so you don't have to set it or worry about resetting it when the clocks go forward or back.

Whether it's enhancements to the DAB standard or new features from PURE, the USB connector enables you to keep your EVOKE-2XT up to date. Product Details

Customer Reviews

Peerless

Within minutes, I realised I'd made an excellent choice.

This is a beautifully engineered DAB radio. Majestic looks, solid feel and oh-so simple set-up. Despite all of these incidentals my main hope was that it sounded good. We live in a relatively poor signal area so was resigned to the fact that it may not receive many stations and pre-empted the possibility for an external aerial in time...?

With some uneasiness I powered up, switched on and in seconds was then presented with a 'more than promised' list of available stations for our postcode. Admittedly some were slightly distorted until I moved the in-built aerial.

If that wasn't enough to make me smile I then decided to crank it up to test the sound capability. Reviews of the 2XT sound are varied, but I honestly can't see how anyone could criticise the purity of sound. I admit to being a bit of an audiophile so take a lot of pleasing in this department. We have a big room space to fill so anything too bassy or tinny just won't do. I've tried varying volume levels with tweaks of tone and can acheive a stunning quality of sound. Trust me, it sounds vastly bigger than it's physical size.

If I were to pick at anything I'd have to say that although it is reassuringly weighty, a second hand is needed to steady the unit when pressing the control buttons. If this demonstrates anything it should merely show how particular I am with product design and in the scheme of things, it's not enough to discourage me from declaring this to be our best purchase this year.

A little Gem

We have just received a Pure Evoke-2XT DAB radio which was for our kitchen. I am amazed to say that this item is excellent and far exceeds our expectations. From the quality of the case to the quality of the sound this radio is excellent in every respect. My wife who is not usually one to be enthusiastic over this type of item was "over the moon with it" so much so that she wanted to order another for the upstairs of the house. The display is easy to read and having the presets makes it simple in terms of operation. The reception is really good as well giving us a very wide range of DAB stations. We would thoroughly recommend this item. With supersaver free delivery Amazon it is also one of the cheapest places to buy.

2 years old and still sounds superb

I bought the Pure Evoke 2XT DAB radio two years ago, and it's absolutley brilliant. It was brilliant when I first plugged it in and two years on still sounds great. For it's size, the sound is truly amazing, crisp notes with deep bass. Can't fault it. Try it with Chill FM ! Bliss

A good first DAB choice

I ordered this for my girlfriend who wanted her first DAB radio and have not been dissapointed. The sound is clear with nice bass, it picks up the channels easily even without the aerial fully extended. Changing the channels is a doddle, while listening to one radi ostation you can scroll through a list underneath and simply push the tunning knob in to change to that channel. The box also comes with an auxiliary audio in the MP3 players although I haven't used this feature and handily includes an optical audio out for plugging into your existing AV amp if you have that facility. The main advantage of this is portability and for that you need to purchase the chargepak, a little pricey at £27 but without it the use of radio is limited as you can't move it from room to room easily, bathroom kitchen for example.
The build quality is good and although quite light it seems solid with a nice finish.
Overall if you listen to the radio its a worthwhile purchase, good quality, sound and easy to use. I would buy a Pure set again.

Good but annoying niggles

Had one for about 10 months now. Well built and very good sound quality, even when used in an internal bathroom (I live in SW London so assume DAB signal is pretty strong). Some small but annoying criticisms though:

1. The necessary charge pack battry is a rip off at £27 extra
2. When powered by battery it has a stupid double-press on button to turn radio back on (press once and it turns off again, need to press twice at carefully spaced interval)
3. No ability to have alarm cancelled at weekends so you need to remember to turn it off every Friday and bakc on Sunday night
